Barefoot Books is an independent children’s publisher dedicated to creating better books for children. After ten years of publishing, we have a reputation for producing some of the finest picture books in the world. From small beginnings - we started the company from our respective homes in 1993 with no staff - Barefoot has grown into a robust international business with a team of 23 working out of busy offices in the UK and the USA Our children are our best critics. They always have plenty to say about every project from the initial manuscript stage, to the selection of artists and the design and production of the books. They have grown up with illustrators arriving for breakfast and couriers calling at midnight, and in a home environment where they are surrounded by literature, creativity and a busy energetic working atmosphere. Just as they have learned from the projects we develop, so we have learned from the many books and ideas they have brought home from school and from further afield. We have also gained all kinds of insights and inspiration from each child’s unique abilities, interests and talents. Our approach is "less is more" - we aim to be selective in what we publish, and to make sure that every project has enduring value as well as lots of child appeal. Our commitment is to bring art and story to today’s children in a way that encourages their own creativity and honors the diversity and wealth of the many traditional cultures of the world. We believe that these cultures have important messages to offer us about our place in the web of life, so many of our titles introduce new and ancient perspectives on the world we share.
The world’s largest wooden toy company BRIO’s history began in 1884 with basket-maker Ivar Bengtsson. Today BRIO is a global corporation, and the largest producer of wooden toys. Ivar Bengtsson understood that a focus on quality was essential. This approach lives on today. BRIO toys are known for their quality and durability, and are often handed down from generation to generation. BRIO has also accumulated extensive expertise on how toys stimulate a child’s development. A BRIO toy is not only developmental, it’s also a joy to play with as all good toys should be.

The company's roots go back to the late 1960's, in Watertown, MA. Judy Folkmanis began sewing puppets for her son's nursery school while her husband Atis earned his Ph.D. at Brandeis. Even with two small children underfoot, Judy managed to design and produce enough puppets to begin a cottage industry. When the family moved to California, Judy enjoyed four years of success as a sidewalk vendor, selling her "Furry Folk" creations to the eclectic passers-by on Berkeley's famous Telegraph Ave. Then, in 1976, her business took an interesting turn. Atis completed his studies in biochemistry and switched to cutting puppet patterns. They soon hired several seamstresses, and never looked back. The couple has turned their small venture into the premier manufacturer of plush puppets worldwide, with nearly 200 of the most heartwarming and realistic designs on the market today. Best of all, after 25 years, Folkmanis, Inc. is still a family business.

Galison was founded in 1979 to work with museums to make their imagery widely available in the form of well-designed and manufactured paper products. We published some books and calendars before focusing on boxed notecards, fine art stationery, greeting cards, personalized Christmas cards (for individuals and businesses), note cards, journals, and other gift products for writers, which is why we're sometimes still known as Galison Books, a.k.a. GMG Publishing. We still favor fine art images, and both Galison and Mudpuppy products are popular in museum stores. Our fine art stationery is also found in the best gift, stationery, book, and department stores. Mudpuppy Press was launched in 1992. From an early specialization in puzzles, we expanded to our current offering of puzzles, journals, diaries, Christmas cards, and stationery for children and the young at heart. We're currently working on some very creative formats, including specialty journals and stationery for older children, so be sure to check back frequently. 1993 saw the introduction of our Holiday Time line of cards with unique but accessible imagery. Our Christmas cards work well for personal or corporate use. You can arrange to have cards personalized yourself - just click the "personalize" link at the card you like. We're also happy to discuss adapting or creating personalized Christmas cards for you. Over the years, we have worked with museums, non-profit organizations, and business to creative private label custom projects. From imprinting existing journals to creating something new, this segment of our business continues to grow!
